NICKEL ALLOYS - Nickel 400 (UNS04400)

Nickel and nickel alloys are non-ferrous metals with:

  • High strength and toughness
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Superior elevated temperature properties

Alloy 400 (UNS04400)

Characteristics
  • Excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking.
  • Good mechanical properties from subzero temperatures up to about 480C.
  • Corrosion resistance in an extensive range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts and alkalis.
  • This alloy is more resistant to nickel under reducing conditions and more resistant than copper under oxidizing conditions, it does show however better resistance to reducing media than oxidizing.
  • Good resistance to sulphuric and hydrofluoric acids. Aeration however will result in increased corrosion rates. May be used to handle hydrochloric acid, but the presence of oxidising salts will greatly accelerate corrosive attack.
  • Resistance to neutral, alkaline and acid salts is shown, but poor resistance is found with oxidizing acid salts such as ferric chloride.

Applications
  1. Feed water and stream generator tubing
  2. Brine heaters, sea water scrubbers in tanker inert gas systems
  3. Sulphuric acid and hydrofluoric acid alkylation plants
  4. Pickling bath heating coils
  5. Heat exchangers in a variety of industries

Exotic Metals Chemical Equipment

As we know, Chemical Equipment generally including:
1. Dehydration column
2. Sulfuric Acid Cooler
3. Nitric Acid Cooler
4. Super Heater
5. Annonium Sparger Ring
6. Acid Evaporator
7. Nitric Acid Condenser
8. Chlorine Vaporizers
9. Sulfuric Acid Coolers
10. Pressure Vessels & Custom Fab

Exotic Metals generally including:

1. Titanium
2. Tantalum
3. Niobium
4. Zirconium

Now, let's see what advantages of these exotic chemical equipment have?

First: Titanium Chemical Equipment

Titanium (Ti), is one of the most resistant materials to the effects of salt water corrosion and is virtually immune to atmospheric corrosion. Titanium can withstand the corrosive effects of metallic salts, chlorides, hydroxides, nitric and chromic acids. Titanium has been proven effective in a number of industires including, chemical, petrochemical and marine industries.

Second: Tantalum Chemical Equipment

Tantalum (Ta), forms an extremely stable, protective oxide film making it one of the most corrosion resistant metals known. Below 300° F it is inert to all concentrations of hydrochloric, nitric, sulfuric and phosphoric acids (up to 85%)

Thrid: Niobium Chemical Equipment

Niobium (Nb), also refereed to as Columbium, is very similar to tantalum. It has the lowest melting point of all the refractory metals covered, the lowest modulus of elasticity and thermal conductivity, and the highest thermal expansion. It also has the lowest strength and lowest density of the refractory metals.

Last: Zirconium Chemical Equipment

Zirconium (Zr), is extremely adherent, stable oxide film gives it the characteristic of excellent chemical resistance to many aggressive chemical reagents. It exhibits good corrosion resistance to alkalis and acids. It resists nitric acid in concentrations up to 95% and temperature to 400° F. Zirconium fights attack by most alkalis, organic compounds and organic acids. It has excellent resistance to seawater and brackish water.

16. Is titanium a metal?

Titanium is the ninth most abundant metal in Earth's crust, according to Chemicool, but it wasn't discovered until 1791. English amateur geologist Rev. William Gregor discovered some black, metallic sand in a creek bed, analyzed it and discovered it to be a mixture of manetite, a common form of iron oxide, and a new metal. Gregor called it manaccanite for the parish in which he'd discovered the sand.

Titanium is a transition metal, meaning it can form bonds using electons from more than one of its shells, or energy levels. It shares this feature with other transition metals, including gold, copper and mercury.

Titanium also is a expensive metals. and corrosion resistance metal.

17.Titanium strongest metal

Titanium resists corrosion and is particularly strong and lightweight. It's as strong as steel, but only 45 percent the weight, according to Los Alamos National Laboratory. And it's twice as strong as aluminum, but only 60 percent heavier.
